26-Dec-13: Rocket fire from Gaza Thursday morning

In among all the reports of peace on earth and goodwill toward men, another rocket was fired overnight at an Israeli target (target = anything on the far side of the border) by the armed-to-the-teeth terrorists of Hamas-controlled Gaza. No one was killed, and as far as can be ascertained now after daybreak no significant property damage happened. But this - somehow always forgotten in such matters - was never the intention of the men firing those rockets. They seek to kill and injure and are willing to risk their own lives in doing so - and certainly are willing to endanger the lives of other people's children in their own villages and towns - because it's something in which they believe passionately. Call it an article of religious faith. Times of Israel's report says the overnight rocket, which caused sirens to sound throughout the area around 12:30 am, crashed into open fields on the outskirts of Ashkelon, a southern Israel coastal city of 120,000 people. Additional Iron Dome defensive anti-missile batteries have been deployed by the IDF in several southern Israel locations in the past 48 hours (including Be'er Sheva, Ashdod and Sderot) in the wake of the clear signs of another periodic escalation of civilian-targeting attacks from terrorism-attacked Palestinian Arab Gaza. Why those attacks are happening now is a question worth examining. We will share a view of this in a few minutes.
